MUMBAI: It’s a disappointing day for Karan Oberoi and his family, as the actor’s bail plea has been rejected by a Mumbai Sessions Court. Last Friday, the actor had filed for a bail application, and in his plea, he termed the FIR against him as ‘false’ and an action ‘meant to harass’. He called his relationship with his 34-year-old accuser ‘consensual’.
Unfortunately, in a hearing held at the Dindoshi Court on May 17th, the actor was refused bail in connection to the rape accusations against him by an astrologer. His lawyer Dinesh Tiwari has stated that they are not happy with the court’s order and will take it up in the High Court.
According to the reports in spotboye.com, after his arrest on May 5th, a magistrate court sent Karan to 14 days custody on May 9th. For the uninitiated, a female astrologer accused the actor of raping and extorting money from her. An FIR was filed at the Oshiwara Police Station under Sections 376 (rape) and 384 (extortion) of the Indian Penal Code. In his bail plea, it was stated that, ‘The very fact that the applicant (Oberoi) and the first informant (the woman) had met through a dating app goes on to show that the intention of either party was not to get into a serious relationship.’
